Yi Ahmedabad Brings a Climate-conscious Twist to Navratri Celebrations

AHMEDABAD, GUJARAT | 18th OCTOBER 2026 | Blending the spirit of Navratri with a commitment to environmental responsibility, Young Indians (Yi), Ahmedabad, hosted Yi Garba 2026 on October 15 with renowned artist Dhruvish Shah. The entire event was curated with a simple yet meaningful thought: “Come for the Garba. Leave something good behind.”

“Reimagining the traditional Garba celebration as an opportunity to create a positive impact, Yi Ahmedabad brought the community together around the idea of celebrating consciously,” said Mr Darshan Parikh, Chair, Yi Ahmedabad. The initiative highlighted how cultural festivities can go beyond music, dance and celebration to encourage more mindful choices for the planet and the community.

With the theme of “Dance, Celebrate & Give Back,” Yi Garba 2026 championed sustainability through a series of conscious initiatives. These included tree plantation linked to every Garba pass, a commitment towards zero-waste celebrations, responsible recycling of e-waste, collection of pre-loved home items to give them a second life, and responsible sharing of surplus food to ensure that good food finds another plate instead of going to waste.

The initiative reflected Yi Ahmedabad’s belief that even small, collective actions can create a meaningful difference. Ms Bijal Desai, Co-Chair, Yi Ahmedabad, shared, “By integrating sustainability into a much-loved cultural celebration, Yi Garba aimed to inspire participants to carry the spirit of conscious living beyond the nine nights of Navratri.”

The celebration served as a reminder that traditions can evolve with purpose, and that every individual can contribute towards a more sustainable future without letting go of the joy and togetherness that make festivals special.

Through Yi Garba 2026, Yi Ahmedabad reinforced its commitment to creating community-led initiatives that combine celebration with responsibility, encouraging people to dance with joy, celebrate with awareness and give back in ways that matter.
